A little while ago Chrix showed you what was possible with a Noritake 800 VFD display. Today I’ll be covering the mounting of this display into a computer case. It certainly looks nice sat on the desk but its not very practical - often it gets knocked over which isn't healthy for such a fragile display.
There are a few possibilities when it comes to mounting a display such as this, it could either be mounted in an external box or internally in the computer case. A box mounting is much more flexible in that you can position it where ever you like on your desk but in my opinion a case mounting looks far better and that’s what I'll be covering in this article.

Mounting a VFD brings other advantages too. Once a VFD is mounted you can put virtually any colour film in front of it and give it a whole new look. You could even design your mounting so that you could swap different coloured films in and out. The only downside is, depending on the type of film you buy, some of the brightness of the VFD is taken away.
