Well, I was browsing the net a while ago... as you do... and I found these
parallel graphic LCDs, so I thought i'd tell you what i've found, as it has
been a while since ICE last showed you some LCD goodness.. They connect to your
parallel port like the alphanumeric HD44780 modules that we know and love, but
whereas your average alphanumeric might be 4x20 characters, these graphics come
in sizes upto 320x240! However the one i'll be showing you is a 240x128 module.
These modules are relatively cheap as well, I got mine for 37UKP inc p&p
from someone from the forums (there are some for sale on our forums at the moment
the same as the one in this article, as well as some others, find them here).
There are many controller chips that you will see on parallel graphic LCDs,
but the two most popular with the software authors are the T6963c and the SED1330/SED1335.
Although some other controllers are currently being worked on by the creator
of Liquid MP3 (i'll show you what
that is later on) such as the KS0108B, aswell as a cool little USB2LCD device
he has created himself to allow the LCD to run from a USB port. I am not going
to show you how to wire one of these LCDs in this article, because there is
little point to it, as they are not all wired the same, however if you would
like help wiring one, post a thread in the forums,
where there are several people who can advise you. OK, I think its time for
some pics eh? ;) |
